My sincere thanks again to Sandie O'Neill, who arranged for an enthusiastic group of most talented people to be introduced to this exciting new form of felting, including her young daughter Shawna! None of the participants had ever needlefelted before.

After initial introductions we began with the first exercise that explored 3-dimensional needlefelting. The project was an egg, however as time went on some people detoured into an exciting myriad of creatures, people and animals! The second exercise focused on 'painting with fibre' on a piece of commercial felt as a background. Scenes from mountains to the ocean began to appear. The results were both beautiful and extremely well crafted.

Cheryl, pictured left - above with her needlefelted dog in progress, went on to win 1st place at the Canberra Royal Show and Champion in the Handicrafts subsection. She also took 2nd place for another of her needlefelted pieces. Well done Cheryl!

Sandie and daughter Shawna (pictured on the right - above) both won major honours at the Canberra Royal Show. Shawna took 1st prize for the under 12s with her turtle. Sandie took 2nd prize for a felted bag with needlefelted embellishments. Her sculptural piece, Monarch of the Forest, a tree stump with a face in the front of it and a beard of silk, and mohair, took first place in the sculptural section and it took Reserve Champion for the non-professional - section! Many congratulations to you both!

Watch for Sandie and Elizabeth's new company "Felt from the Heart".

Absolutely nothing gives me greater pleasure than to see people be recognized for exceptional work and to know that I played my part in creating an environment where these adventures could begin!
