January 2009.  Welcome to Cocoonnections! - a place where you can hear about what I'm up to here at The Creative Cocoon.
Happy New Year! It is my tradition to spend New Year’s Eve / Day on my own. It is a chance for me to reflect on the previous twelve months and look at what might evolve for the next twelve. Highlights for 2007 have to include my time in New York State with Jonathan Fox , Jo Salas and people from all over the world learning more about Playback Theatre; the expressive arts exhibition at the Agnes Jamieson Gallery in Minden with my friends and  fellow artists Brian Nichols and Marilyn Smith;  another amazing eight weeks of the Expressive Arts Post Grad Certificate program as an instructor and coordinator; incredible participants in my summer courses in Introduction to Expressive Arts Therapies and Mask and Stories, both of which are being offered again this year - see my calendar; a truly wondrous solo trip around Lake Superior in my son’s ancient camper van;  and my attendance and participation in the first international mask festival in Stroud, England – an extraordinary experience. This New Year promises more adventures. See my calendar for more details or contact me at fay@thecreativecocoon.com
All the very best to you and yours for 2009.

Warmly, Fay.

New Work

This is the time of year when I incubate and hatch new ideas. I have a number of concepts ready to be explored – so many projects, so little time! So the next time you visit this space I hope to have more to show you!   View new work

2007 was full of adventures which culminated in my attendance and participation in the first international mask festival held in Stroud, England last Fall, which was spearheaded by my mask guru/teacher from years ago, Michael Chase. The 10 day extravaganza was chock full of workshops, performances, and a huge exhibition. I told some stories in mask, I was part of some spontaneous street theatre in mask – which was a fascinating experience – and I took one of my felt masks which was very different from anything else that was displayed. I also took several workshops from the best of the best and learned a huge amount – I came home totally re-inspired in the work and look forward to sharing some of what I learned with you.

Workshop News

I am very excited about several new courses I have developed for Sir Sandford Fleming College and The Haliburton School of the Arts including Designing and Facilitating Expressive Arts Experiences in July, Felt in Nature in September and Felt Making for Quilters in November. A one day Introduction to Storytelling in July is a great and fun way to get your feet wet in this ancient oral tradition. I am happy to say that Masks and Stories will run again in August this year. That was a truly extraordinary week with extraordinary students. Take a look at some of their mask work in the Workshops Room of the Gallery. I am also delighted to say I have been asked to contribute to the Sculpture Certificate Program at the Haliburton School for the Arts. I will be teaching Fabrication – Experimental Materials with Paul Portelli in March.

Marge created this powerful mask during my Masks and Stories course in Haliburton, and used it to tell a Nasrudin story. The week long course will run again this August in Haliburton, see my calendar.  For more pictures please go to The Gallery Workshop Room.
Wisdom Passed.

Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly.......
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...
It's about learning to dance in the rain
